First Attack is the latest project from Greg Huff, the charismatic and instantly recognisable frontman of Bishops Green, Alternate Action, Subway Thugs and Glory Stompers. With other members also involved in The Enforcers and The Buzzers, there is certainly no shortage of Oi! experience behind the band. But First Attack have quickly developed an identity of their own, built around melodic, mid-tempo Oi! with plenty of atmosphere and huge choruses.
More Sorrow is the band's second album, following 2025's No Escape, and across its eight tracks First Attack stick firmly to what they do best: strong songwriting, memorable guitar work and songs that gradually get under your skin. The band's melodic approach has already been noted by other reviewers, particularly the combination of prominent guitar lines, mid-tempo rhythms and choruses that practically demand to be shouted along with.
For me, though, the real defining feature of the album is Greg Huff's voice.
There is something genuinely worn-in about his delivery. His voice carries emotion without ever sounding forced or theatrical, and you can hear the experience behind every line. There is also a quiet frustration running underneath the songs that gives the choruses considerably more weight. When Huff sings, it sounds like he is telling you something he has actually lived through.
“Hit A Wall” and “Violent Society” are two particularly strong examples. They have that rare quality where you can already imagine how they will sound with a crowd singing every word back at the band.
The title track, “More Sorrow,” takes things into a more reflective direction. The song was released as a single earlier in 2026 and has already been described elsewhere as a slow-burning anthem. As the closing track of the album, it works particularly well, allowing Huff's weathered vocal to carry the emotional weight.
And that is probably what makes More Sorrow work so well. First Attack don't overcomplicate things, which is a good thing.
There are no unnecessary parts and no desperate attempts to sound clever. Instead, First Attack concentrate on writing proper Oi! songs—songs that work on the dancefloor, in a crowded venue, or equally well through your headphones on a late-night walk home.
Released on September 18, 2026 through Longshot Music, More Sorrow is a confident and straightforward second album from a band that already knows exactly what it wants to sound like.
Modern Oi! with melody, heart and a frontman whose voice carries genuine emotion—First Attack have delivered the goods again.
