Last Protocol don’t mess about. Yinz Skins is American Oi! done properly – concise, loud, and to the point. After their 2022 EP, Under the Rubble , the band returns with another release that explores the same themes but dives deeper into their regional identity. The title itself is a double entendre – “yinz” is a Pittsburgh dialect word for “you all,” and “skins” refers to the traditional working-class attire.
The band’s music doesn’t hold back – most songs are short and to the point, just like their American oi! counterparts. They seem to have perfected the formula seen on their previous EP, Under the Rubble , but with more confidence and a clearer sense of purpose.
Opener and title track Yinz Skinz is the type of song that makes you want to shout along (Yinz Skins!!!); Under the Gun and Shutting Down are also up-tempo numbers that fit the bill. The band channels the same spirit as their earlier work but with even more verve – the energy is palpable!
The band’s previous EP, Under the Rubble , received nothing but praise from critics, with many hailing it as an excellent example of American Oi! It seems that they’ve only improved upon their already impressive debut – this new release has everything one could ask for in a punk-rock record!
