Texas's Bullshit Detectr released a compilation of remastered singles from their No Joy EP, their split with Empire Down, the Liberty & Justice split and a couple of bonus tracks. This isn't so much new music as a highly polished reflection of their output over the past few years.
Expect a nihilistic and bleak take on streetpunk/Oi!, clearly with French inspiration (think Syndrome 81 or Rancoeur's work), tinged with hints of late-Blitz-era coldwave that at times touches on more death-rock or Synth-heavy territory. The band label it "thugwave," a fitting description: heavier, more downcast Oi! That dips into elements of post-punk, Goth or even death-rock without losing its sharp edge.
"Hard Luck Boys" is the wildcard (and one of my favorites), showcasing a synth driven synthwavy death-rock vibe and prevents the album from just settling into predictable street-punk territory. For the most part the tracks focus on more traditional themes of working-class struggle, addiction, depression, death and a bleak sense of hope, or perhaps simply a will to survive, presented as darker music for darker times but not necessarily completely despairing.
If your taste leans towards that newer breed of atmospheric cold Oi! /streetpunk that nonetheless maintains that boot-clad stompin' attitude this should be right up your street.
Remastered and collected on a single 12-inch, it's a no-brainer intro to a really compelling band or simply a tidy collection of earlier 7-inch releases.
