Fresh off their 2024 debut Statues EP, Cornwall's Unrivalled —led by the battle-hardened vocals of Mike Brands (ex-Arch Rivals)—deliver a proper six-track statement with We Are The Enemy. At a sharp 20 minutes, this is not background music for your tea pasties party.
The title track, "We Are The Enemy", charges out as a growling mid-tempo anthem loaded with gang vocals and working-class bite that targets contemporary life's hypocrisy and fragility directly. It has the traditional Oi! bounce with a real sense of urgency, lyrics that expose the garbage without holding back, making it an immediate favourite for live performances.
"Statues", carried over and developed from their earlier release, stands tall as among the highlights. Driving riffs and a killer hook skewer the pointlessness of destroying symbols while ignoring actual problems, stressing the frailty of those who worship phony idols—direct, forceful, and unapologetic.
Other highlights keep the energy unforgiving. Combining hardcore punch with that unmistakable Oi! attitude, "The Beast Of Bodmin" channels wild, untamed local energy into a ferocious stomper that is pure pit gasoline. Closer "Victims" (a homage to The Strike) honours the past but enhances it with the band's distinctive crisp, modern flair.
Unrivalled debuted in 2024 and already sounds like a seasoned band. Leading a tight unit that performs with the chemistry of a band that has played a hundred sweaty concerts is Brands' gravel-throated roar. Building on the promise of Statues, this EP presents a band completely arrived with attitude, heart, and intent.
If you love real street punk and Oi! that really means something, We Are The Enemy is a must-have. Turn up the volume and catch these lads live as they hit your town. Unrivalled are the real deal, Cornwall's best export since pasties and actual rebellion.
