Convict Class - Not My Enemy

The guys from Convict Class just sent me their latest album Not The Enemy directly from Australia, and on an Amsterdam morning I "clicked play" and suddenly it felt like I had been transported to a sweaty Warrnambool pub.
There was not a single moment when I was able to resist as from the opening chords to the final feedback, this record mesmerizes its listener completely, a real streetpunk monster that oozes life, honesty, and is also full of that raw working-class fire that inspired the scene in the first place.

This whole album is full of old punk vibes from the 70s/80s, packed with a deep Australian snarl. Husky and shout-along vocals are right at the center of it all, and the spirit of Cockney Rejects, Anti-Nowhere League, The Stiff Little Fingers and also that bit of Rose Tattoo swagger comes through.

You will really remember the attitude that is dotted all over the record. Basically it is working-class punk highlighting the division, the everyday annoyances, the dirty tricks of modern life and at the same time reminding us all that we are being fooled by the same system. There is rage, there is laughter, there is pride in your origin, and there is that indestructible sense of togetherness. No overblown lyrics, no trendy junk just sheer street truth.

The album is like a proper night out with your mates: it starts with a bang, picks up speed, has some funny and few serious parts, and ends in a high that makes you want to hear more. After their debut Generation Of Discontent, this record proves that the band has only been improving since getting a deal with Randale Records. This is the answer to what the scene needs a lot more of in 2026 real, down-to-earth, high-energy punk down under.

Do yourself a favour and get this album in your ears immediately, if you are a fan of the no-bullshit streetpunk sound. Stream it, buy the vinyl or CD and support these legends. Convict Class are flying the flag loud and proud.
