I was in the car driving to my girlfriend, windows down even though it was pissing down. Put the album on blind, two seconds into “Who Made You King” and I was grinning like an idiot, volume knob straight to the right. That opening riff and Cobley’s bark cut through the rain like he was sat in the passenger seat having a proper shout at me. By the time it finished I’d driven an extra five kilometers just to hear the whole thing again.
These Welsh lads have been hammering away since the late 90s, but this one feels like they’ve sharpened the blade after a few years stewing on it. Twelve tracks of no-nonsense street punk/Oi! that doesn’t waste a second.
What I love most is they’re not just recycling the same old skinhead tropes. Songs like “No More War,” “Sold Down the River,” and “Tin Pot Dictator” feel ripped straight from the current mess – deindustrialised towns, politicians playing games, the rich getting richer while the rest scrap for scraps. But it’s never preachy; it’s angry, direct, and you can actually sing (or shout) along to it. “Rotten to the Core” and “Violent Times” have this snarling energy that reminds me why I fell for this music in the first place.
If you’re into the spirit of ‘69, real street-level punk that actually says something, this is essential. It sharpens the edges and drives them home. Crank it loud and remember why this music still matters. Fatal Blow just dropped one of the strongest Oi! punches of the year. Don’t sleep on it.
