Pay Cut - Aiming Towards Nowhere

Helsinki crew PAY CUT—vets pieced from the wreckage of Abnormi, Maailmanloppu, Omaisuusvahinko, Pahaa Verta and The Boasters stacking 70 years of punk scars—unleashed their debut full-length in Nov '25, co-pressed by three labels cramming 12 tracks into 22 minutes of boot-to-the-gut fury. Born from the dusty streets of Finland's capital, these guys spit a brew of British oi stomp, US street punk sneer, and hardcore aggression, spiked with that melancholic Nordic edge that bites deeper than retreads.

These guys grind like Helsinki dust in your molars—uncompromising, attitude-heavy punk rock that hits straightforward and hard. From the outset, Pay Cut establishes a sound that is both reverent to its roots and refreshingly autonomous. The songs blend gritty street punk aggression with anthemic choruses, evoking the no-frills ethos of skinhead rock'n'roll.

Opener "Another Way" charges mid-tempo with shout-along hooks, setting the tone for terrace-ready anthems. "On the Road Again" picks up the pace, street punk drive with oi choruses; "Waiting" slows for vocal punch, while "Chop" blasts short and sharp.

"In The Dark," brooding Finnish melancholy meets hardcore aggression; "Break The Grind" snaps quick, "Lackey" builds anthemic. All of the songs are instant singalongs and I expect a few during their liveshows.

Finnish scene's kicking— this slab proves it, distinct and alive. Aiming Towards Nowhere stands as a testament to Pay Cut's growing stature and the ongoing relevance of Helsinki's punk landscape. For enthusiasts of straightforward, attitude-driven Oi!, this LP is an essential acquisition, affirming that the genre continues to evolve while staying true to its core principles. In a crowded field, Pay Cut aims high—and hits the mark.
