Jackknife Johnny - Trading Aces

Sacramento's JACKKNIFE JOHNNY drops their first full-length on Oi!Tism. Nine originals plus a gritty take on ANTI NOWHERE LEAGUE's "Animal," all backed by dual guitars that beef up the attack and open up the riffs. Soundwise, it's a raw blend of oi, punk edge, and hardcore blasts, but the artwork screams NYHC vibes, so I braced for straight beatdown. Nah—it's mostly thumping streetrock with bovver boot stomp, rolling mid-tempos that hit like terrace anthems. Feels more Euro oi crew than Cali hardcore, minus the soccer scarves.

The LP kicks off with "Dealers Choice," laying down the blueprint: chugging oi punk, gang vocals begging for shouts, steady drive that carries the whole slab. "No Way Out" dips into hardcore breaks mid-song, keeping it fresh, while "Deadly Sins" slows the roll for vocal punch. "Sellout City" nails the sweet spot mixing all three styles, and "Shadow Days" burns with hooky choruses that stick.

"One Of The Few" crushes—pure terrace fury with aggression that echoes DISCIPLINE's prime cuts, prime for circle pits or pub singalongs. "It's a Lie" and "Bovver Blitz" keep the momentum, forward charge with chorus hooks and hardcore swings. "Martyr" amps the stadium chant feel, "Animal" strips back to '82 rawness.

Lyrics tackle city grind survival, consistent and fitting the vibe without preaching. Solid debut that surprised with its oi leanings over hardcore heft—quality stuff worth spinning.
