There’s been a real buzz brewing in the American Oi! scene these past few years — from new blood like Shaved for Battle, Klaxon, and Ultra Sect to old guard acts still flying the flag. It’s raw again, unpolished, and rooted back in the streets where it belongs. Out of that same spirit comes Petty Treason, a no-bullshit trio from Salem, Oregon, who’ve just dropped their debut: Hangin’ With Friends, out now on 31 Records.
Petty Treason deliver straight-ahead, working-class Oi! built on guts and grit. Their earlier single “Crew” was a proper warning shot, and the full album follows through with the same punch: loud guitars, gang vocals, and that tough-but-true energy that separates the posers from the real deal.
Right from the get-go, Hangin’ With Friends kicks in like a boot to a face. Friday nights is an anthem for nights out with your mates, where loyalty means more than words and the beer flows like battle fuel. Most tracks deal with the grind of daily life, and the loyalty of friendships. By the time you hit the last track you’re already shouting along — it’s the sound of every factory clock-out turned into a rallying cry.
There’s something unmistakably real about this record. You can almost feel the sweat dripping off the rehearsal room walls. The mix is rough, but that’s part of the beauty — it doesn’t just sound like Oi!, it feels like it.
Petty Treason wear their influences loud and proud — a mix of The Templars, Patriot, and a touch of Condemned 84 for good measure — but they’ve carved their own identity in the process. There’s a West Coast twist running through the songs; you can sense that American open-road defiance beneath all the grit and brickwork. It’s Oi! with heart, Oi! with honesty.
Lyrically, it’s all about pride, mates, and keeping your head up when the world’s stacked against you— just stories from the real side of life. It’s the kind of record that reminds you why Oi! mattered in the first place: because it spoke for people who didn’t have anyone else shouting for them.
Hangin’ With Friends is an album that earns its place the hard way — through heart and hard work. There’s no question about it: Petty Treason just set the bar high for American Oi! in 2025.
