You hear Melbourne punk band The Clinch, and you're thinking street-punk anthems. Late nights with mates, drinking until the pubs shut down. Time's Up is real rockandroll streetpunk, for sure. What sets this album apart from just rehashing the past is this undeniable feeling of place and real stakes. These are the kind of songs for people who show up when it really matters. The Clinch has always touched on these themes, but here it feels even more raw, more to the point.
Sure, people will compare them to the classic Oi! records, and to bands from the Australian scene, like the heavier side of Rose Tattoo. You can also hear echoes of direct street punk exports. But when you listen to The Clinch, all those influences are there, yet they sound completely unforced. It’s Melbourne first, then the wider sense of camaraderie.
I've spun Time's Up already a couple of times since it dropped, and it’s a welcome surprise, honestly. This album really delivers on that old-school promise of music: get off your butt, get out of bed, and start living life your way. Play it loud, mean what you say, and leave things a little rowdier than you found them. In short, this band nails it on every front. If you're looking for this kind of sound, you can't really ask for much more. It’s like hitting reset again.
