The Boasters - Dancefloor K.O.

If you’ve ever wondered where the real boots-and-braces spirit went in Finland while the rest of the punk scene chased trends, The Boasters just answered with a straight right hook to the jaw. Dancefloor K.O. is ten tracks of no-nonsense streetpunk, Oi! and pub rock’n’roll.

The album opens with Riot Dogs – pure petrol-in-the-veins action rock that sets the tone: fast, loud, and unapologetic. The Ghost of Kyiv keeps the foot pinned to the floor with razor-sharp punk precision and shouty vocals that cut through the mix like a broken bottle on a Saturday night. But it’s the B-side where the record really finds its stride. Dancefloor K.O. (the title track) is an absolute banger – massive hook, gang vocals that beg you to join in, and the kind of chorus that turns any pub into a temporary dancefloor (ironic name, perfect execution). Leavin’ My Job throws in a cheeky little boogie riff that nods to Hurriganes without losing the Oi! edge, while closer Visitors feels like the victory lap you deserve after ten rounds.

What makes this record click is the honesty. No filler, no pretentious art-punk nonsense – just ten songs that do exactly what they say on the tin. This is music for the lads (and lasses) who still believe in three chords, a pint, and sticking it to the Monday morning alarm clock.

In a country where genuine Oi! has always been a rare breed, The Boasters have delivered the best Finnish full-length in the style in years. If you’re into Cock Sparrer choruses, Cockney Rejects attitude and that classic streetpunk energy, put Dancefloor K.O. on, crack a cold one, and turn the volume up until the neighbours file a complaint.
