Taker - Sons and Daughters

In the raw underbelly of Buffalo's punk scene, TAKER emerges as a formidable force with their debut full-length, Sons and Daughters, released on January 22, 2026, via Contra Records. This 11-track salvo distills the essence of Oi! grit into a potent, melodic brew, channeling the streetwise urgency of Stiff Little Fingers and The Business while injecting the Ramones' beach-blanket bravado. Fronted by Eric from Violent Way and bolstered by veterans from Corvo, Healer, and They Live, the band crafts an album that feels both timeless and urgently contemporary—a soundtrack for the disaffected.

From the opener "Reach Out," TAKER wastes no time establishing their sonic turf: thunderous choruses layered over driving rhythms that evoke the boardwalk punk of yesteryear, yet laced with a modern Oi! edge. Tracks like "Big Step" and "Boots" (featuring guest vocals from Jenny Woo) stand out as anthemic highlights, the former a fist-pumping call to action with its infectious gang vocals, the latter a raw, collaborative stomp that echoes the genre's communal spirit. Elsewhere, "For You" and "Town" slow the tempo just enough to reveal emotional depth, blending pub-rock swagger with heartfelt introspection. Even shorter bursts like "No Score" and "Alias" pack a punch, their brevity amplifying the album's relentless energy without sacrificing melody.

What elevates Sons and Daughters beyond mere revivalism is its poignant undercurrent. The hand-painted cover art, created by the late tattoo artist Scott Sonner—a close friend of the band—serves as a tribute to his memory, infusing the record with a tangible sense of loss and legacy.

Clocking in at under 30 minutes, the album's concise fury leaves listeners craving more, a testament to TAKER's disciplined songcraft.
